While Orientation courses are not a substitute for full AMI diploma training, they offer a meaningful introduction to the principles and practices of Montessori education—and a deeper understanding of how to support Montessori environments.
These courses are ideal for administrators, school support staff, classroom assistants, and parents. For many, an Orientation is the perfect first step in their Montessori journey.
The Montessori Institute offers an AMI Orientation course for 0–3 (Assistants to Infancy)
Each Orientation is a 60-hour certificated course that blends Montessori theory with practical application tailored to the developmental needs of each age group. Coursework includes a combination of live online sessions, recorded lectures, and required observations and assignments.
Upon completion, students receive an AMI Orientation Certificate.

Vinkle Thakkar, Assistants to infancy Faculty at TMI
Vinkle Thakkar’s Montessori interest was inspired by the confidence and independent thinking she observed in her siblings and cousins who went to a Montessori school. The journey since then has been ongoing and evolving.
Vinkle holds AMI diplomas for the 0-3, 3-6 and 6-12 levels and a Bachelor’s in Arts from the University of Mumbai, India. After 21 years in the classroom and engagement with the children of different age groups, she is now an Instructional Coach at Near North Montessori School in Chicago, IL. She is also a Trainer for the Association Montessori Internationale and the Montessori Institute in Denver, CO.
